چکیده
An appraisal of butterfly species diversity was carried out in the suburban town Bongaon, southern West Bengal, India whose faunal remained undocumented. A total 76 butterflies were recorded from October 2018 to 2019. The highest number belonging family Nymphalidae (27 species), followed by Lycaenidae (21 Hesperiidae (13 Pieridae (8 species) and Papilionidae (7 species). Among that have been recorded, nine come under protection category as per Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Over study period, 54 larval host plants also documented. This communication will be first comprehensive work on Bongaon serve baseline data for future research butterfly.

متن کاملHost plant choice in the comma butterfly-larval choosiness may ameliorate effects of indiscriminate oviposition.
In most phytophagous insects, the larval diet strongly affects future fitness and in species that do not feed on plant parts as adults, larval diet is the main source of nitrogen. In many of these insect-host plant systems, the immature larvae are considered to be fully dependent on the choice of the mothers, who, in turn, possess a highly developed host recognition system. This circumstance al...
متن کاملFlexural stiffness patterns of butterfly wings (Papilionoidea)
A flying insect generates aerodynamic forces through the active manipulation of the wing and the “passive” properties of deformability and wing shape. To investigate these “passive” properties, the flexural stiffness of dried forewings belonging to 10 butterfly species was compared to the butterflies’ gross morphological parameters to determine allometric relationships. The results show that fl...
